Maryam Rafiee Tells Her Refugee Story

Refugee accounts are essential to understanding the challenges of being a refugee.

To mark the World Refugee Day, Toronto Public Library invited local author Maryam Rafiee to present her new book Dear Baba: A Story Through Letters.

Her book recounts her life as a teenager in Iran, with her father imprisoned because of his political views.

During that time, Maryam wrote him several letters that she was unable to send.

Those letters were published in her new book.

It reveals the suffering that prisoners of conscience and their families go through and the hope they have to keep in the face of tyranny.
