Psychological distress often plagues refugees when they land in Canada.
How do settlement workers develop a framework to address trauma and its impact?
How can settlement workers be better equipped to enhance the refugees’ ability to get back on his feet and flourish in their new setting?
Ontario Council Of Agencies Serving Immigrants (OCASI) in collaboration with Victims Of Torture and Women's Health in Women’s Hands will try to provide answers to these question through a two part full day training series.
The following topics will be covered:
Understanding what does a trauma informed agency look like for the settlement sector
Increased understanding of Trauma Informed Care and its importance in practice for immigrant serving organizations
Increased capacity in identifying the different types of trauma affecting immigrants and refugees
Understanding the challenges of and the importance of establishing trusting, collaborative relationships in a trauma-informed context
