Maryam Rafiee Tells Her Refugee Story

Refugee accounts are essential to understanding the challenges of being a refugee.

To mark the World Refugee Day, Toronto Public Library invited local author Maryam Rafiee to present her new book Dear Baba: A Story Through Letters.

Her book recounts her life as a teenager in Iran, with her father imprisoned because of his political views.

During that time, Maryam wrote him several letters that she was unable to send.

Those letters were published in her new book.

Rethinking Refugee Support

The #IR_Aesthetics projects is a field research project that aims to investigate the stories of migration and the refugee crisis in Serbia and Greece through an interdisciplinary perspective.

The research focuses on the following themes:

  • Political expression in marginalised communities through graffiti and music

  • The use of technology and social networks within the migrant experience

  • The everyday geographies of the refugee crisis
