To address this problem, Rumie launched Learn Syria Initiative.

The initiative aims to gather learning content for displaced Syrian children.

Coming to Canada as a refugee is far from being an easy process. The procedure is long and tedious. Refugees go through various steps which consist of several layers of approval and screening; with the displaced person’s file being reviewed by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), Interpol, Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) and similar databases in allied countries.

The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) and the Crossroads Clinic at Women’s College Hospital have been working together to find ways to respond to the mental health needs of Syrian newcomers during and after the current resettlement surge.

Starting in March 2016 the Mood and Anxiety Ambulatory Service at CAMH will launch a refugee mental health and wellness service called the New Beginnings Clinic.

Syrian refugees are beginning to settle in Canada with the help of organizations like COSTI Immigration Services, funded by the Government of Canada.
Reception centres provide refugees with access to health and counselling services, and orientation sessions that prepare them to find new jobs.
Children can attend the art therapy sessions to help them cope with post-traumatic stress.

The Syrian Refugee Medical Assessment Translation Tool is available for free to health care providers for mental health screening. It was developed to help reduce language barriers between Syrian refugees and healthcare providers.
These free, secure online tools have been developed to allow patients to complete a full history and mental health screening in Arabic or Armenian, with the results automatically translated to English for healthcare providers to review and add to the patient record.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has announced the release of the Language Training for Canada video in Arabic. The purpose of the Language Training for Canada video is to raise newcomer awareness on the importance of official language skills for settlement in Canada.

The Language Training for Canada video is also available in English and French.
