About the workshop:
Are you a settlement worker, sponsor, or volunteer working with refugees?
Join us for our interactive workshop, "Shifting the Conversation about Mental Health & Trauma."
This workshop invites participants to critically reflect on their perspectives and understanding of mental health, mental illness, and trauma. We will explore key concepts and worldviews, discuss challenges and barriers that hinder effective communication and delay help-seeking, and examine practical strategies for talking about mental health and addressing stigma. Participants will engage in small group conversations and deepen their knowledge using scenarios and case studies.
Learning Objectives:
- Explore different cultural perspectives and worldviews on mental health and trauma.
- Engage in critical reflections on cultural biases and the stigma of mental illness.
- Discuss challenges and opportunities in talking about mental health and trauma.
- Learn strategies for addressing mental health and stigma.
About the facilitator:
Dr. Sajedeh Zahraei, PhD, MSW, RSW. Dr. Sajedeh has over 28 years of professional practice experience in a variety of mental health and non-profit settings, including 20 years of work experience at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health.
