OCASI / Accessibility Initiative invites you to participate in the upcoming webinar: Unpacking Stigma and Bias about Disability, Race, and Immigration

This empowering webinar showcases how ableism shows up on interpersonal, societal, and institutional levels; intersecting with racism, and other forms of oppression. The session demonstrates how ableism and audism are embedded in the social fabric of our society through language, policies, practices and procedures; and, how to challenge our own ableist beliefs in our lives and at work.

Webinar outcomes to participants

• Explain how ableism and audism are revealed on individual, interpersonal, institutional, and societal levels
• Demonstrate the ways ableism, audism, racism, and other forms of discrimination are embedded in our society through language, policies, procedures, and practices
• Examine the barriers and challenges im/migrants and refugees with in/visible disabilities experience
• Recognize how ableism, audism, and racism structure stigma and biases around racialized im/migrants and refugees
• Identify how to use these ideas to challenge your own ableist beliefs, and apply them in your work by avoiding ableist and audist language, and practices

Webinar Speaker BIO:

Jheanelle Anderson, MSW, RSW, is a Black disabled Social Worker and Researcher. Her work focuses on disability justice and research with communities at the intersection of Blackness, disability, and immigration. In addition, she has a background in community-engaged research with Black survivors of homicide victims, developing Culturally Responsive Evaluation frameworks, and co-designing knowledge mobilization plans with marginalized stakeholders.
