PRSN Workshop : Understanding Trauma-Informed Care
The Private Refugee Sponsor Network - Ontario (PRSN) invites you to the upcoming workshop: Understanding Trauma-Informed Care
About the workshop
As sponsors, we know we are not the experts, but we need to understand many challenging issues to ensure an effective settlement. Have you ever heard the term trauma-informed care used? There are many types of trauma and multi-layered experiences.
Join this workshop to better understand and explain how trauma manifests itself in different age groups and how it is interwoven with culture. These principles will be helpful in day-to-day interactions with those we sponsor as we engage in understanding what they have experienced and how we can help.
Learn how to offer support in coping and healing, what professional resources are available, and receive helpful take-home points
Speakers
- Jess Howsam: PhD student, University of Wisconsin at Madison
- Huda Bukhari: Community Engagement Manager Canadian Centre for Victims of Torture (CCVT)
- Dr. Yusra Ahmad: Psychiatrist, University of Toronto
