About this Course
Creating Positive Spaces for LGBTQIA+ Newcomers Level 2, which is supplementary to Creating Positive Spaces for LGBTQIA+ Newcomers Level 1, provides tactical and practical tools to address LGBTQIA+ newcomer issues and reviews organizational change strategies to more effectively serve LGBTQIA+ newcomers within the immigrant and refugee serving sector.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course you will:
- Engage with issues of intersectionality to further develop critical thinking skills and build capacity
- Strategize about resistance to change through various techniques, and confront overt/covert biases of co-workers and clients
- Enhance organizational systems to embody best practices for working with LGBTQIA+ immigrants and refugees
Course Information
Prior e-learning experience is not required. You will need access to a computer, as well as 2-4 hours per week to complete the tasks over the 5-week period.
This course is open to settlement workers and service providers who are working in or with the immigrant and refugee-serving sector across the province who are willing to:
- Commit to approximately 2-4 hours of learning per week
- Practice active participation through the program
- Complete assignments within the given timeframe
At the successful completion of the entire e-course, you will receive a certification of completion from OCASI.
Course Dates : September 16 - October 31
