OCASI Anti-Racism online training course : Understanding and Challenging Anti-Black Racism

OCASI invites you to this course to develop a deeper understanding of race, racism, and Blackness and learn how you can challenge anti-Blackness.

Course Description

This 4-module course aims to assist people working in the settlement sector understand how systems operate and how they create and manifest racism and anti-Black racism. By the end of the course, participants will be supported to develop new skills on how to be an inclusive and anti-racist leader and develop new ways to confront anti-Black racism.

Course Learning Objectives

  • Deepen understanding of the impact of systemic racism on racialized communities (particularly Black communities) and employees and the significance of our roles as leaders in society;
  • Gain knowledge, skills and tools to increase capacity as a leader to address conflict pertaining to issues regarding race/racial tensions/racial conflicts; and
  • Develop an inclusive working and learning environment for racialized people.

Course Dates

February 15, 2023 to March 22, 2023

Course is offered over a 5-week period, to allow participants enough time to complete and receive a certificate. This is a self-directed online training, meaning you can go at your own pace and complete the modules whenever you can. Participants will receive access to the course on February 15th at 9:00 am and the course will close on March 22nd at 5:00 pm.

Course Launch

The developer of the course, Dr. Christopher Stuart Taylor is leading an interactive webinar on Tuesday, February 14th to provide an overview of the course and walk participants through meaningful discussions of confronting anti-Black racism.
