PRSN Lunch + Learn : Dealing With Racism
The Private Refugee Sponsor Network - Ontario (PRSN) invites you to the upcoming Lunch + Learn: Dealing With Racism
This online Lunch + Learn is aimed at private refugee sponsors - faith-based, Community, and Groups of Five.
Has your sponsor group and newcomer family had to deal with racism during their settlement? Did they want to talk about it? Did you want to talk about it? How did you handle it to ensure security while also addressing feelings of intimidation and fear? Sometimes, there is a reluctance by newcomers to talk about racism or discrimination.
For sponsors, the challenge is how to recognize and determine if the racism is intentional or not. What advice and counsel should we offer or share?
Join in and learn how to deal with racism by listening to an expert who has lived this topic as a researcher, human rights lawyer, certified coach and mediator, and has also been a member of a private refugee sponsor group. Bring your experience to share with other sponsors so that we can develop best practices around this difficult and challenging issue.
Moderator:
Marla Allan, Toronto. A retired human resources executive experienced in leadership development
Resource:
Dr. Tanya (Toni) De Mello, Toronto. Vice-President, Equity and Community Inclusion, Toronto Metropolitan University
