Workshop: Empowering Safety: Legal Rights & Practical Steps for Gender-Based Violence Survivors

Neighbours Friends and Families

OCASI - Neighbours, Friends and Families (IRCNFF) cordially invites you to participate in the upcoming webinar: Empowering Safety: Legal Rights & Practical Steps for Gender-Based Violence Survivors.

Webinar Description:

This workshop is designed to provide domestic violence survivors, particularly refugee, immigrant, and non-status women, with clear and actionable legal guidance. Participants will learn about their rights under immigration and refugee laws, legal protections available for survivors, and the steps to apply for legal status or refugee protection.

The session will also cover how to access safe housing, financial assistance, and legal representation while navigating the complex asylum and refugee system. By equipping survivors with practical tools and resources, this workshop aims to empower participants to take informed steps toward safety, stability, and justice. Whether you are a survivor, advocate, or service provider, this session offers valuable insights into legal pathways and community support.

Learning Goals:

  • Understand the legal rights and protections available to domestic violence survivors, particularly those with precarious immigration status.
  • Learn step-by-step processes for seeking asylum, refugee status, or legal residency as a survivor of gender-based violence.
  • Identify key legal resources and support networks for survivors navigating immigration and family law issues.
  • Develop a practical roadmap for accessing safe housing, financial aid, and legal representation.
